Querétaro Vs. Necaxa Match Sparks Violence Concerns In Mexico...

A Liga MX soccer match between Querétaro and Necaxa on Saturday has reignited concerns about fan violence in Mexican stadiums. The game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, saw multiple clashes between supporters in the stands, prompting heavy police intervention.

The incident is trending in the US due to growing American interest in Liga MX and recent efforts to curb hooliganism in Mexican soccer. Many US-based fans watched the match live on Univision and TUDN, where broadcasters repeatedly highlighted the disturbances.

Querétaro's Corregidora Stadium was the site of a deadly fan brawl in 2022 that left 26 injured. Saturday's violence, though less severe, occurred just weeks before Mexico co-hosts the 2026 World Cup with the US and Canada. Security experts warn such incidents could damage Mexico's reputation as a tournament host.

Liga MX officials announced Monday they would review security footage to identify offenders. The league has suspended 12 fan groups since 2022, but enforcement remains inconsistent. Necaxa supporters allege Querétaro security failed to separate rival fan sections as promised.

US Soccer Federation officials declined comment but have previously expressed concerns about safety at Mexican venues. Over 15 million US viewers tune in weekly to Liga MX broadcasts, making it the most-watched soccer league in America.

The match controversy comes as Mexico prepares to face the US in a June friendly at AT&T Stadium near Dallas. Ticket sales for that game remain strong despite the latest violence concerns.
