Marvin Bagley III Signs Multi-Year Extension With Wizards...
Marvin Bagley III has agreed to a three-year, $37 million contract extension with the Washington Wizards, the team announced Wednesday. The deal solidifies the 26-year-old forward's role as a core piece of the Wizards' rebuilding efforts after his strong performance since arriving from Detroit last season.
Bagley averaged 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds in 28 games with Washington after the February 2025 trade. His improved efficiency (55.2% FG) and rim protection made him a priority for the Wizards' front office. "Marvin has shown he can be a difference-maker for us," said Wizards GM Will Dawkins.
The signing comes as Bagley's name surged in Google searches Wednesday morning after ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the extension news. Fans and analysts have debated whether Washington overpaid for the 2018 No. 2 overall pick, who struggled with injuries earlier in his career.
Bagley becomes the latest player to benefit from the NBA's rising salary cap, which hit $172 million this season. The extension includes a player option for the final year, giving Bagley flexibility while providing Washington cost certainty.
The Wizards open their 2026-27 season October 19 against the Charlotte Hornets. Bagley's development alongside rookie lottery pick Alexandre Sarr could determine how quickly Washington climbs out of the Eastern Conference basement.
