Chicago Med Cast Shake-Up Sparks Fan Outcry Ahead Of Season 12...

NBC's Chicago Med is facing backlash after announcing major cast changes for its upcoming 12th season. The medical drama confirmed this week that longtime stars Nick Gehlfuss (Dr. Will Halstead) and Brian Tee (Dr. Ethan Choi) will not return as series regulars when production resumes this summer.

The news, first reported by Deadline on April 8, has dominated social media trends, with #SaveChicagoMed gaining traction on Twitter. Fans expressed particular concern about Gehlfuss' departure, as his character has been central to the show since its 2015 premiere.

Showrunners confirmed the changes in a joint statement: "We're grateful for Nick and Brian's incredible contributions. Their characters' journeys will conclude in meaningful ways during the season premiere." The statement did not specify whether their exits were voluntary or creative decisions.

This marks the latest shakeup for the One Chicago franchise. Chicago Fire recently lost two original cast members, while Chicago P.D. saw Jesse Lee Soffer depart in 2023. Industry analysts note the franchise faces increasing challenges retaining talent after a decade on air.

Filming for Season 12 begins in Chicago this July, with new episodes expected to premiere in September 2026. NBC has yet to announce replacement cast members, though sources indicate the show may introduce new doctors to fill the void.

The controversy comes as Chicago Med remains one of NBC's top-rated dramas, averaging 7.2 million viewers per episode last season. Whether fan frustration impacts those numbers remains to be seen when the show returns this fall.
